How Création Baumann Is Redefining Eco-Friendly Drapery for Modern Interiors

By Mary Holt

At Carnegie, sustainability isn’t a goal—it’s the foundation of everything we create. This commitment extends across every product category, including our long-standing partnership with Création Baumann, a global leader in sustainable textiles. Together, we empower designers with solutions that balance aesthetics, performance, and environmental integrity.

Création Baumann’s Sustainability Strengths

  • 84% Monomaterials
Nearly all Création Baumann textiles are made from a single material, allowing for easier recyclability at the end of their lifecycle. The remaining 16%—enginereed for advanced functions like sound absorption or heat and glare control—deliver purposeful performance where it matters most. Designing with monomaterials reflects foresight: while textile recycling is limited today, these products are ready for the circular systems of tomorrow.
  • Clean Water Leadership
Switzerland enforces some of the world’s strictest water regulations. At Création Baumann’s facilities, a state-of-the-art neutralization plant ensures that all wastewater leaving the facility is cleaner than domestic wastewater—meeting and exceeding ISO 14001 environmental standards.

  • Circular Economy in Action
From reusing 100% of overstock materials to recycling textile waste, Création Baumann is deeply committed to closing the loop—minimizing waste and keeping resources in circulation.

  • Climate Responsibility
Since 2013, Création Baumann has cut CO₂ emissions by 35%, thanks to renewable energy, solar systems, and efficiency improvements at their Swiss production site. They’re not just meeting, but exceeding, their voluntary targets set with the Swiss government.

  • Longevity & Timeless Design
Textiles are energy-intensive to produce, which makes product durability critical. Through timeless design, superior materials, and long-lasting performance, Création Baumann ensures its textiles deliver maximum environmental efficiency over time.

Designing products and systems that keep materials in use longer plays a meaningful role in reducing carbon emissions associated with manufacturing and waste. Circular design models not only minimize environmental impact but also embody the balance of innovation and responsibility that defines both Carnegie and Création Baumann.

Working alongside our partner Création Baumann, we are able to provide solutions that are beautiful, functional, and sustainable. Through a proven track record of climate and water responsibility—and a shared dedication to design, performance, and environmental integrity—Carnegie continues to be recognized as a trusted leader. As we celebrate over 50 years of partnership with Création Baumann, we remain united in our mission to create Materials that Matter®.
