The Space

The MGM Aria Resort & Convention Center offers 500,000 square feet of versatile meeting space with a calming desert ambiance. Featuring seven ballrooms (17,500–51,000 sq. ft.), five with theatrical stages, plus breakout rooms (400–3,400 sq. ft.), Aria is designed to accommodate programs of all sizes.

Design Objective

For the moveable walls, the designers sought a cohesive design solution that functioned seamlessly as a high-performance system. With a calming desert aesthetic already in place—featuring natural light and native plants—they needed textiles that would make a statement in large rooms with tall walls. Drawing inspiration from abstract artist Piet Mondrian, the team envisioned a “boxed” look with overlapping panels.

“This custom project was a breeze thanks to the Carnegie design team. We came with a specific vision, and they brought it to life—ensuring everything, from the design to the installation of the panels, was perfect. This project was completed in 2009, and we still love it!”

Carnegie Provides the Solution

With pre-selected colors of Xorel and a strong design vision, the team came to Carnegie seeking a custom textile that would meet both aesthetic and functional needs for the high-traffic ballrooms. The Carnegie Studio designed a 5-panel repeat that combined the “grid” look with the building’s architecture. Thanks to full custom capabilities, the design also included installation indicators for added ease and efficiency.
