Many Carnegie materials are designed to deliver durability, cleanability, stain resistance, and other performance characteristics through their inherent composition or construction, without relying on added topical finishes. When a project or manufacturer specification calls for additional functionality, select optional finishes and backings are available to support specific performance, installation, and fabrication requirements.

Availability, approved applications, performance characteristics, and specifications vary by product. Contact your Client Experience Coordinator to confirm the appropriate option for your project.

Carnegie offers select Alta™ fabric-protection treatments, including options for stain resistance, moisture barriers, and antimicrobial performance. These treatments are not standard on Carnegie products and are applied only upon specific customer request.

Unless otherwise noted in our Price List, optional finishes applied to stocked fabrics are considered special orders and typically add approximately two to three weeks to standard lead times. Expedited processing may be available for select orders, with applicable freight and handling charges.

Alta™ Guest Room is an optional high-performance textile treatment engineered to elevate fabric from the fiber up. Designed to repel water and oil-based stains while enhancing durability, Alta™ transforms ordinary textiles into resilient, long-lasting materials built for real life. PFOA-Free Stain Resistant Finish for IMO Seating

Our Stain Resistant Finish designed for the Cruise Ship industry is an advanced topical treatment that offers stain repellancy to oil and water-based stains and is easy to clean. It can also improve abrasion and pilling resistance, and seam strength, thus allowing the fabric to perform in the demanding, high-traffic cruise environment, enabling it to pass IMO 2010 FTP Code Part 8 testing for upholstered furniture. Alta™ Privacy offers an optional high-performance treatment specially developed for privacy curtain and drapery fabrics in environments where added antimicrobial performance is specified. The treatment helps inhibit the growth of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including MRSA, as well as fungi, mold, mildew, and algae. It supports a highly cleanable textile while helping reduce odors and microbial growth between cleanings. Designed to withstand up to 100 washings. Available for fabrics up to 54 inches wide; inquire about wider-width applications.

Alta™ Drapery offers an optional high-performance treatment specially developed for drapery. Designed to repel water and oil-based stains while enhancing durability and cleanability, the treatment also helps the fabric comply with applicable drapery flame codes.

An optional immersion treatment designed to provide flame-retardant performance. Applicable testing and results vary by textile content and construction. Many qualifying fabrics can be treated to meet NFPA 701.

Optional backings are available to support specific installation, fabrication, and performance requirements. Depending on the application, a backing may help prevent adhesive bleed-through, improve opacity and dimensional stability, provide a moisture barrier, or make a fabric easier to handle during fabrication.

Certain lightweight fabrics may require a stain-resistant treatment before a backing can be applied. Most backing options are applied at a standard width of 54 inches; inquire about availability for wider-width fabrics.

A polyester backing is also available for qualifying polyester fabrics in place of acrylic backing. By supporting a more consistent material construction, this option may help improve the fabric’s potential for recyclability.

X-Protect IMO Upholstery™ is a specialized backing developed for Xorel Luxe upholstery textiles. With X-Protect IMO Upholstery™, Xorel Luxe meets IMO 2010 FTP Code Part 8 requirements for upholstered furniture and carries the IMO Wheelmark.

X-Protect Wall™ is a proprietary barrier technology that prevents stains and moisture from passing through the textile to the underlying surface. It is water-, solvent-, and bleach-cleanable and can be cleaned with hospital-grade disinfectants. It also prevents bacterial and fungal strike-through. With X-Protect Wall™, Xorel® is 100% water-proof.

Provides a stable backing for qualifying fabrics intended for direct wall application. The backing helps prevent adhesive bleed-through during installation.

SBR, or styrene-butadiene rubber, is a synthetic rubber backing that helps prevent adhesive bleed-through on qualifying upholstery fabrics. It also provides added stability and may improve handling during furniture fabrication.

Combines a PFAS-free stain-resistant finish with a puncture-resistant backing designed to protect against damage from stiletto heels and other sharp objects. Well suited for high-traffic environments, this option helps reduce tears and maintain the fabric’s appearance over time.

Microventing is a process that increases material breathability and is commonly used for wallcoverings in areas with elevated moisture or humidity. It allows moisture vapor to pass through the material. Microventing is a precautionary measure and does not guarantee the prevention of fungal growth.
